Odisha Police has arrested the husband of woman whose body was recovered from an abandoned car in the city on October 1, a senior police officer said Thursday.

The husband of the deceased woman identified as Sangram Aich was arrested by the special squad of the police from Kolkata, Commissioner of Police, Satyajit Mohanty told reporters here.

The CP said Aich has been brought on transit remand and is being interrogated by police. Mohanty said the couple had a fight during which the husband had hit the woman's head and subsequently she died.

The postmortem report had attributed the woman P Tanujas death to heavy blow on her head.

Mohanty also said that the couple used to fight over Aich's friendship with another woman, who stays in Bhubaneswar.

Though initially it appeared that Tanuja died in an accident, her family members had alleged that she was murdered by her husband. Police had registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by the womans kin.

Replying a question, the commissioner of police said the police identified Aich from the footage of CCTV cameras of a nearby shopping mall, where the vehicle was parked, and nabbed him by tracking his phone number.
