Police has arrested the nephew of a 30-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her following a failed attempt to sexually assault her in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri area.

The body of the woman was found with her throat slit at house, that was locked from outside on December 28.

Police has arrested her 32-year-old nephew, identified as Ravi, said a senior police officer.

He used to visit his aunt's place often since he liked her. She kept resisting his advances but on December 28, he visited her and tried to force himself on her, the officer said.

When she protested and raised an alarm, Ravi thought that he would be caught and in a bid to silence her, he slit her throat and left after locking the house, he added.

The accused had thrown his mobile phone in a canal while he had also hid his blood-soaked clothes.

The woman's husband returned home on December 28 evening from work and found that the house was locked.

He tried to reach his wife on her cell phone but it was switched off.

He searched the nearby market and neighbours' houses for Pushpa but she couldn't be traced, they said.

Later, he tried to open the window and saw a glimpse of Pushpa but when he shouted her name, there was no response.

He made a PCR call and the cops broke down the door and found her body.
