The police came under attack from residents of a village in Malda district this morning when it tried to take away the body of a tea shop owner killed by a speeding truck.

Angry local residents in protest blocked the highway and prevented a mobile police team from taking away the body by hurling brickbats injuring OC, Traffic Manabendra Saha and two other policemen.

The additional SP then arrived with a full force to retrieve the body of the tea shop owner and brought the situation under control.

Though local people alleged that the police fired three rounds to disperse the crowd, Malda SP Prasun Bandyopadhyay denied.
