A video clip of a youth being mercilessly beaten up by the police after being taken into custody on suspicion of theft has gone viral on the social media.
The youth was beaten up at the Merapur police station yesterday and the video clip of the police action was not only sent to senior officials but posted on the social media today.
Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar P, when contacted, said, "I have got the video of policemen beating the youth in the police station and the matter is being investigated."
"If the incident is found to be true, stern action will be taken as per the law against the policemen found violating human rights," the SP said.
The video shows policemen beating up Sarvesh with belt after tying him to a pillar.
Police had picked up three persons Sarvesh Kumar, Surjeet and Farid with two cartridges, a country made weapon and some tools on suspicion that they were planning to commit theft.
