Police book former state minister in slapping case

Jammu and Kashmir Police today booked former minister of state for Home and National Conference (NC) MLA Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo for allegedly slapping a senior government official in Kishtwar district in April.

Chief Executive Officer of Kishtwar Development Authority, Riyaz Choudhary had alleged on April 18 that the then minister had slapped him after he could not reach on time to attend a government function in Kishtwar.

Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the MLA on the court's directions after it rejected the MLA's plea of not registering a case against him last week, officials said.
 

He has been booked on the charge of deterring a public servant from performing his duty (186), illegally restraining way (341), voluntary causing hurt (323) and using unparliamentary and threatening language (506) RPC, they said.

Kitchloo was then minister of state for Home and Tourism, and had to resign earlier this month in the wake of communal clashes in Kishtwar on August 9 in which three people were killed and over 20 injured.
