Police today arrested five alleged members of a gang involved in the supply of Indian fake currency in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

An amount of fake currency to the face value of Rs 15 lakh was also recovered from their possession, police said.

The gang members who were arrested include Shahid Hasan and his son Shahabuddeen (Delhi), Mahesh Kumar (Ambala City), Naib Singh (Panjokhra) and Kanwarpal (Barwala).

Police had recovered five fake denominations of Rs 100 from a resident of Bodakheda village close to Ambala City on November 24, who, during interrogation, disclosed that he had received those currency notes from Kanwarpal, a resident of Barwala (Panchkula).

When held Kanwarpal said he had bought those notes from Mahesh Kumar who is working in a public school at Ambala City.

He also informed police that three persons were to reach Jandli Bridge near Ambala City today carrying huge quantity of fake currency which would be handed over to Mahesh.

Police then put up a post on National Highway-1 and nabbed them, recovering fake currency from their possession.

The mastermind of the gang Shahid Hasan told police that he and his son were dealing in property selling business in Delhi and said he had been getting fake currency from Laochan Bhattacharya, a resident of Kathmandu (Nepal) for last several years.

He informed police that in place of one lakh original currency he returned three lakhs fake currency to his agents.
