Police camp in schools:HC seeks UP Govt's reply within 6 weeks

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file its reply within six weeks in the matter of providing school premises for providing accommodation to police personnel to be deputed for BJP leader Narendra Modi's rally here on March 2.

A division bench comprising Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhaya passed this order on a PIL, registered on the basis of a news report.

The court had taken suo motu cognisance of a news report published in a Hindi daily yesterday and also summoned the district magistrate of Lucknow and restrained the state government from providing school premises to set up camp for police personnel.
 

During the hearing, chief standing counsel IP Singh informed the court that district magistrate Rajshekhar had himself withdrawn his related order dated February 24.

The matter has now been posted to second week of May.
