With the arrest of an alleged auto-lifter, Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a high-tech gang which had stolen around 80 high-end cars from Delhi, NCR, Haryana and Punjab.
The accused, identified as Shahbuddin (30) who is a resident of Moradabad, UP was nabbed by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. Police recovered five stolen vehicles with tempered engine and chassis numbers on his instance.
On May 20, police had got a tip off that members of an auto-lifters gang would come near Kali Ghata Masjid, Ansari Road, Daryaganj to sell stolen vehicles.

"During search of the Fortuner SUV many other articles used to commit theft such as ECM, master Keys, Drill machine etc. Were recovered. During interrogation, he disclosed that he along with his associates Kamal, Mehboob and Anish committed theft of about 70-80 vehicles of different models from Delhi, NCR,Haryana and Punjab," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
They used to sell these vehicles to Arif Gola, Asif and Naseem Kamal in UP and one Raja in Punjab. These persons used to procure RC and Insurance Papers from Insurance/Finance companies of 100 per cent damaged vehicles. They then tempered with the engine and chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles which were then sold.
He has disclosed that he can get other stolen vehicles recovered stolen from UP, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. Further, investigation is in progress to link more incidents and nab other gangs involved in such incidents, he added.
