Police Commissioners' meet concludes in Amritsar

During the concluding session of 'All India Commissioners of Police Conference', a resolution was passed to implement the recommendations of Padmanabhaiah Committee.

Padmanabhaiah Committee, headed by former Union Home Secretary Padmanabhiah on police reforms, in its report submitted in August 2000 recommended that system of Police Commissionerate be adopted in all state capitals and in all cities having a population of more than 10 lakhs.

It was also decided that the Commissioner shall be of the rank of DG/ADG/IG/DIG and not below.

The two-day long conference, hosted by Punjab police in coordination with the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), was inaugurated by Punjab Director General Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini, DGP (BPR&D) K N Sharma, and DGP Andhra Pradesh, Dinesh Reddy yesterday.

 

About 55 delegates, including Commissioners of Police from 21 Commissionerates attended the conference.

Eminent delegates who attended the conference include Delhi Commissioner of Police Neeraj Kumar, Mumbai Commissioner of Police Satya Pal Singh and Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma.
