A complaint has been filed here against Director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and actor Sunny Deol of the upcoming movie 'Mohalla Assi', with a local organisation claiming that "expletives" allegedly used in the film hurt the "religious sentiments" of some sections.

Sarvajan Jagruti Manch, a local organization, yesterday lodged a complaint at Bhelupur police station, alleging that a leaked trailer of the movie was laced with cuss words, which maligned the image of Varanasi and its traditions and "hurts the religious sentiments".

The organization along with locals, NGO workers and sadhus also led a protest march against the movie.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jogendra Kumar said, "We have received their complaint yesterday but we have not registered an FIR as yet. However we are probing the matter."

Circle Officer of Bhelupur Alok Jaiswal said, "We are taking legal opinion on the matter whether to register the FIR or not."

The movie is based on the hind novel 'Kashi Ka Assi' written by Varanasi-based author Kashinath Singh.

In the movie, Sunny Deol plays the role of a Sanskrit teacher, actress Sakshi Tanwar is his loud-mouth wife and Ravi Kishen as a tourist guide.

The title of the film comes from the famous Assi Ghat which is one of the major tourist attraction of Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The movie was shot in 2011 but was shelved for a while.
