A 14-year-old girl of Janki Nagar locality under Kotwali police station area was returning home after dropping her brother to school when she was allegedly dragged into the bushy area on the roadside and raped, Superintendent of police, Kripa Shankar Singh said.
On hearing her cries, local residents rushed out and caught hold of Sunil Tewari, a constable posted in Balrampur district and handed him to police, the SP said.
The girl has been admitted to hospital and a case has been registered against the constable, the SP added.
