Police constable attempts suicide; sustains 80% burns

A police constable allegedly attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze at Ramachandrapuram police quarters in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

D Ganash (49), working as a constable with Drakshawaram police station for past one-and-half year, allegedly poured kerosene and set himself on fire last evening, said police.

The cause of suicide attempt is still not clear, said police.

He sustained 80 per cent burns and is in critical condition, said doctors attending on him.

Ganash was on leave had gone to his aunty's place in the police quarter premises itself when he took the extreme step, said police.

He wasshifted to local hospital and then to Kakinada government hospital, said police.
 

The constable is survived by two sons and wife.
