Police constable held for accepting bribe in Maharashtra

A Police hawaldar from Gadchiroli Police station was today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said.

According to an ACB release, a police patil of a village told a woman that the De-addiction committee members are going to lodge a complaint against her.

On hearing this, the said woman approached the police station along with her husband and met the Hawaldar Kishor Mirge who was in charge of the police beat, it added.

However, Mirge did not listen anything and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the woman promising her to hush up the complaint. The matter was finally settled at Rs 2,000, the ACB release said.
 

Following a complaint by the woman, a trap was laid and Mirge was caught red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 1000 at a paan stall near Police station at 4.45 PM, said the release.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered and investigations are on, they said.
