The incident took place near Hotel Crown Plaza on MB Road at around 7 am, police said.
The Hyundai Accent car caught fire and the driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
Constable Laxmi Narayan, who was at the spot, broke the windows of the car and rescued the driver.
