Police couple, family held hostage; robbed at gunpoint

A police couple posted at Amroha in UP, who were on a leave at their home in Deri village in Badalpur, were held hostage along with family members and robbed of cash and jewellery by armed robbers.

The incident took place last night when armed robbers struck at the home of Amit Bhati and Mamta Bhati last night.

Apart from the couple, Amit's mother, sister and brother were also present at the home, police said.

The family was held captive by the accused and robbed of Rs 35,000, and some jewellery, at gun point, they said.

While one of the robbers was standing alert outside, a neighbour got suspicious and raised an alarm after which the accused fired some shots in the air and fled away.
 

An FIR has been lodged at Badalpur police station.
