Police custody for 3 army personnel in paper leak case

A court here today remanded in police custody till March 10 three persons arrested in connection with the army recruitment examination paper leak.

Ravinder Kumar, Dharamvir Singh and Nikam Kumar Pandey worked as clerks in the Army Recruitment Office at Nagpur.

The police here had earlier arrested 21 people in the case on February 26.

The accused, which include owners of coaching classes, offered question papers of army recruitment examinations in advance for Rs 2-3 lakh.

Santosh Shinde, owner of Raje Chhatrapati Academy at Phaltan in Satara district who is among those arrested, was believed to be the mastermind, police had said.
 

After the Thane police busted the racket on February 26, the army cancelled the examination at a number of centres including Kamptee, Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Ahmedabad, Goa and Kirkee which come under the Pune zone.

The army has also instituted a high-level Court of Inquiry to probe the matter.

Ravinder Kumar, Dharamvir Singh and Nikam Kumar Pandey were detained by army authorities yesterday. They were brought here from Nagpur today and produced before the district judge who remanded them in police custody till March 10.
