Police custody for tribal youth in lynching case

A tribal youth was remanded to seven days police custody by district and session judge court of Gomati district on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in lynching a labourer at Dakshinpara, about 60 km from here.

Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), Nabadweep Jamatia said, one Dalil Miah, a labourer, who was engaged in drilling works at an ONGC site at Daksinpara village of the district reportedly molested an 18 year old tribal girl.

"On Tuesday afternoon, on hearing the screaming of the girl, some local youths rushed to the spot and rescued the girl and had beaten Miah severely, Jamatia said.

He also said that police rescued him and sent him to the Gomati district hospital, where the doctors declared him 'brought dead'.

 

Jamatiya said police could arrest only one person yesterday in connection with the case and the court remanded him to seven days police custody.
