A senior police officer questioned by Crime Branch-CID probing the alleged suicide of a 27-year-old woman Deputy Superintendent of Police, today rejected charges by her family and others that she had been harassed by superiors.

"I have nothing to say on the suicide of (DSP) Vishnu Priya. The police department has not harassed anybody in connection with the case as alleged by her family and others," Superintendent of Police S R Senthilkumar told PTI.

He pointed out that special teams had been probing the case for some time now and so there was no question of any "personal harassment" of the DSP.

Meanwhile, police said the CB-CID team, as part of its ongoing probe into the case, questioned all staff at the DSP's camp office at Tiruchengode and took away some files.

The team also questioned five persons already arrested in connection with the case, who were booked under the Goondas Act and are lodged in prison in Salem.

Yesterday, CB-CID took over the probe into the case against the backdrop of charges of harassment by her superiors as DMK, Congress, CPI(M) and VCK demanded a CBI probe into it.

Tiruchengode DSP Vishnu Priya was found hanging in her residence-cum-office complex on September 18.

The DSP's father Ravi and one of her batchmates had levelled charges of harassment by her superiors in connection with a case related to the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj, which she was probing.

Her close friend DSP Uma Maheshwari, who pressed for a CBI probe, had also alleged that Vishnu Priya was "harassed" by her superiors as they wanted some persons to be arrested in the murder case, which had caste overtures.

Police had however rejected the charge, saying they recovered a 16-page 'suicide note' in which Vishnu Priya had stated it was her third suicide attempt and had requested her mother not to create an issue over it.
