Jammu and Kashmir police today detained several state BJP MLAs and activists when they took out a rally to protest against the arrest of its workers here.

Several BJP MLAs and workers, led by state president Jugal Kishore Sharma had assembled at the party headquarters here to take out a march to Rajouri district, as a part of "Rajouri Chalo" call given by the party.

The police blocked the main exit of the party office following which a scuffle broke out between them and the agitating workers, but they managed to proceed with the march.

The cavalcade was again stopped at Muthi and Domana, on the outskirts of Jammu by the police and some BJP workers and MLAs including Ashok Khajuria, Chander Prakash Ganga, MLA Sukhnandan Kumar, Karan Singh among others were arrested.

Addressing the activists, BJP state president said that the party will not tolerate any hurdles in celebration of religious functions by people in the state.

Sharma accused the state government of having a communal attitude and vote bank politics.

Sharma alleged that the state government failed to enable a Ram Leela Committee to clear a land of encroachers to conduct Ram Leela and subsequently registered cases against its youth members.
