A casual labourer today alleged that Gadchiroli police station officials forced him along with family members to vacate his house in Gokul Nagar area here.

Addressing a press conference here today, Vinay Gupta, who earns his livelihood by serving as a casual labourer, said police officials entered his hut on December 24 and asked him to immediately vacate it, saying that he had encroached upon government land.

"On December 24, a police sub-inspector Mungilwar attached to the Gadchiroli police station entered my hut at around 12.30 pm and asked me to immediately vacate it saying that I have encroached upon government land. Mungilwar threatened to jail me if I did not follow his orders," Gupta told reporters.

"Since I was afraid of the police, I shifted my belongings elsewhere. The police then took me and my wife to a police station and made us put our signatures on a paper after which we were released. The police sub-inspector also asked me to remove tiles of the hut before I left the police station," Gupta said.

"The police has made be homeless. My entire family is terrorised and my family has been thrown out on the streets. The police committed an illegal act by misusing its powers," Gupta said, demanding stern action against the police sub-inspector and other police officials involved in the act.

When asked about the incident, police station in-charge Dhindure said Gupta vacated his hut on his own and the police "did not do anything".

However, police sub-inspector Mungilwar said he had gone to the hut as ordered by the regular police station officer to get the Gupta family to vacate it.
