After the public outcry and angry protests by the family members of Parampreet Kaur, whose body was found hanging in her house here, the police today arrested Mayor's alleged second wife and son.
Alleging police was not arresting the accused as Patiala Mayor Jaspal Singh Pardhan was himself involved in the murder, victim's family members and their supporters today blocked the Sangrur road in Patiala.
The protesters were demanding arrest of the accused including Mayor Pradhan and his alleged second wife Paramjit Kaur and son Harpreet Singh, husband of the deceased.
Police later swung into action and arrested Paramjit Kaur and her son.

29-year-old Parampreet was found hanging yesterday at her in-laws' house in Toba Kashmira area of the walled city.
The family members of the victim had alleged that they first received a call from her in-laws saying Parampreet was ill and when they reached her house, they found her lying still on the bed, with Mayor Jaspal Pradhan, Paramjit Kaur and Harpreet Singh standing around it.
A case under various sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder) was registered against Mayor and his alleged second wife and son, at Kotwali police station yesterday.
Meanwhile, the city Mayor has refuted the allegations saying he was not related to either the deceased or Paramjit Kaur.
Contrary to the voters' list record where he is listed as husband of Paramjit Kaur, he claimed to be a friend of her late husband.
