The AAP today questioned the authority of the Delhi Police to register an FIR against two of its MLAs and a suspended party legislator for "manhandling" a woman in the Legislative Assembly.
AAP's chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said that since the "alleged" incident occurred on the premises of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, "permission from the Speaker is needed before any action is taken".
The woman is a "habitual offender and had registered cases of abuse and molestation against others in the past", he alleged.

AAP MLAs Somnath Bharti and Jarnail Singh, and suspended party legislator Amanatullah Khan allegedly manhandled the woman on June 28.
Linking the incident to a 'joint session' of the three civic bodies at the Ramlila Maidan in June last year, where some BJP councillors had allegedly attacked an AAP councillor, he said the Delhi Police did not register an FIR in that case as "they did not have permission from the mayor to do so".
"The Delhi Police is adopting double standards ... They are not following the rule of taking permission from the Assembly Speaker," Bhardwaj said.
He asked the force whether it took necessary permission from the Speaker before filing the FIR "as members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and members of the Lok Sabha enjoy the same powers".
