A Delhi Police head constable allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver in West Delhi's Kanjhawala area here this morning, police said.

Although police has not recovered any suicide note from the deceased, who has been identified as Anil Kumar, prima facie it has ruled out any foul play and is treating it as a case of suicide.

The incident took place around 7.45 AM when Kumar, who was posted at Kanjhawala police station since the last 21 months, shot himself inside a temple after offering prayers.

"We got a PCR call about the incident at about 8:00 AM that a man in police uniform has shot himself at Kali Mata temple situated in Kanjhawala. When a team reached the spot, Kumar was found in a pool of blood. He was identified with his badge on his chest, the bullet had pierced his head," said a police official.

"Prima facie it seems that he was upset over some family issue. We are investigating the case," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sanjay Kumar.

Anil Kumar was a resident of Sonipat in Haryana. He had joined Delhi Police in 1988 and was staying in Swatantra Nagar area of Narela in west Delhi.
