Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahendar Reddy today suspended a police inspector for his alleged misconduct while investigating two cases.

Vijay Singh, working as police inspector in Central Crime Station (CCS) a wing of Hyderabad Police, was suspended for his alleged "misconduct" while investigating two cases of alleged cheating and rape relating to incidents that were reported to have occurred between 1998 and 2004.

The cases, however, were registered during October 2014 and December 2014 respectively based on complaints received, a city police release said tonight.

"Without conducting any proper investigation into the allegations, the investigation officer arrested the accused V Ravindra, a retired Joint Commissioner, Commercial Taxes and illegally detained as well as tortured him for motivated reasons in addition to extorting huge sums of money," the release said.

The inspector forced Ravindra and his friend to register and transfer a property belonging to them in the name of an acquaintance known to the delinquent officer for gain under duress and threat, it said.

"The inspector also illegally detained Ravindra's family members and let them off later," the release said.
