Police jawan hurt in accidental firing

A police jawan sustained injuries in an alleged accidental firing by one of his colleagues during an anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district today, police said.

The 'gopniya sainik' (secret informer) has been identified as Lachhin Poyam. He sustained flesh wounds when rifle of a constable accidentally went off during the operation under Chhote Dongar police station area, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena said.

"The jawan is out of danger but was air-lifted to Raipur for the treatment as a precautionary measure," the SP said.

The incident took place early this morning when a joint team of security forces were cordoning of forest close to Chameli and Musnar villages.
 

Soon after the incident, the jawan was rushed to a hospital at Narayanpur district headquarter for the preliminary aid and later shifted to Raipur.
