At least nine Taliban militants, who were planning terror attacks in the city, were killed today in a shootout with police here.
Senior police official, Rao Anwar told reporters that nine Taliban militants were killed after a gun battle with the police on the outskirts of Karachi near the national highway.
"The police raided a house in the Mian Khan Goth area near the national highway after getting information that some members of the Taliban were holed up there planning terrorist attacks in the city," Anwar said.

"When the police carried out a full scale raid in the area the Taliban insurgents fired at us and in the ensuing gun battle nine of them were killed while some have been arrested in injured condition," he said.
Police also recovered large cache of ammunition, explosives and an explosive laden rickshaw from the hideout of the killed militants, he said.
Last month the police killed seven TTP militants killed near Sohrab Goth.
Some areas of Karachi, Pakistan's biggest city and economic hub, have now for long become no-go areas for law enforcement agencies because of the heavy presence of TTP militants and other Jihadist outfits who have set up safe havens there after fleeing the military operations in the tribal areas.
