Police today lathicharged two groups which clashed at the district headquarters town of West Singhbhum here.
A minor incident flared up into a major one after two groups clashed over a small issue in the Mochisai area, said West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Aboobacker Siddique and Superintendent of Poice, N K Singh.
Addressing a joint press conference, they appealed to the people not pay heed to rumours and maintain peace and tranquility while assuring to take stringent action against the trouble maker.

Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mob after all attempts to pacify the warring groups, who indulged in brick-batting, failed, a police officer said.
"We have deployed paramilitary forces to maintain law and order in the township in view of the tension caused after two groups clashed in Mochisai," Sub-Divisional Officer (Chaibasa) Asim Kispota said.
The situation was tense but well under control, he said.
