A massive cordon and search operation was today launched by the police and security forces after a man went missing in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Search operation has been launched by the police in Kalakote belt after a man went missing there. Operation is going on," Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Deepti Uppal told PTI.

Sanjay Singh, a resident of Saroh village in Kalakote tehsil, went missing this morning.

His family members claimed that they got a called from Sanjay who said he was abducted by three suspected militants in Army uniform and since then his mobile was switched off.

"Uncle (Sanjay) called on my number and told me that he was abducted by three suspected militants from his village early in the morning," Sanjay's niece Nishu told PTI.

Asked whether militants have abducted him, the Deputy Commissioner said she cannot comment as the matter is under investigation and it would be premature to say anything on this.

After the family informed the police about the incident, a search operation was launched in the area. Police also visited Sanjay's house and recorded statements of the family members in this regard, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Panic has gripped the area following the incident.
