Police nabs five alleged drug peddlers

In two separate operations, five alleged drug peddlers were arrested today with a large quantity of brown sugar and codeine phosphate, police said.

In the first operation, two peddlers- Adil Aziz Wagay of Noorbagh and Sajad Ahmad Beigh of Kawoosa - were arrested on a tip-off by a police party from Batmaloo area of central Srinagar, a police spokesman said.

He said 700 grams of brown sugar, worth lakhs of rupees in international market, was recovered from their possession at the time of their arrest.

Both the accused were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, he said, adding the questioning of the duo was in progress and some more arrests and recoveries are expected at their disclosure.
 

In the other case, another drug peddler, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar of Pattan, was arrested with 39 bottles of Codeine Phosphate during checking at main chowk Bemina in the vicinity of Batmaloo, the spokesman said.

On the disclosure of Dar, he said, police arrested two more peddlers - Ishtiaq Ahmad Khawaja of Noorbagh and Zahoor Ahmad Hajam of Sopore - and recovered 2000 more bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the house of Khawaja.

All the three were booked under NDPS Act, he added.
