Police nabs gang of burglars

Delhi police crime branch claimed to have caught a gang of burglars allegedly involved in five cases of theft in recent past, police said today.

The accused have been identified as Salim (24), Deepak (23), Shankar (24) and Ranjeet (23). Police have recovered 175 bags of catechu (Kattha) each weighing 22 Kgs, worth several lakh, said a senior police officer.

"A piece of information was received that the accused had stored the stolen bags of catechu in a room, in village Hiranki, Alipur and were looking for its disposal" he said.

The cops nabbed the burglars while they were shifting the bags to a truck.
 

"The accused were experts in breaking opening shutters using iron rods and they used to target only those shops and godowns where Supari, Kattha and Cardamom was stored," the officer said.

Saleem, Shankar and Deepak had been arrested earlier also in different cases while Ranjeet served as their truck driver and who does not have any previous case lodged against him, he added.
