Traffic police constables in this Silk City had a pleasant respite from the scorching heat when they were provided lemon juice and glucose water at traffic signals.

The cost is met from the police welfare fund, a police official said.

"The welfare fund is meant for the welfare of the police personnel. We have decided to serve lemon juice and glucose water to traffic constables on duty in the hot weather. We have started distributing these since the last five days and will continue till the temperature drops," said Reserve Inspector Niroj Kumar Polai.

"Two constables who were off-duty started distribution of lemon juice among 40 constables on duty at traffic posts from 11 am," said Inspector In-Charge (Traffic) R N Patra.

A traffic constable can choose between lemon juice and glucose water or both," said Polai. The aim is to reduce fatigue under the energy-sapping hot condition.
