Police officer arrested for accepting bribe

A police Sub-Inspector was arrested by Vigilance department sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

The officer took the money from one Prakash Chand, former Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Putliar, near Gandhi Chowk here after which he was taken into custody, a spokesman of the Vigilance department said today.

The police officer, posted at Nadaun police station in Hamirpur district, was allegedly demanding a sum of Rs 15,000 from the former panchayat functionary for giving him a clean chit on a complaint pertaining to the construction of two village paths during his tenure.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further interrogation was on.
