Police officer arrested for hiding sapphire pieces

A police officer was arrested for hiding pieces of precious sapphire stone that was recovered from a person few days back in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Iqbal was arrested and booked for hiding some pieces of the sapphire recovered from one Abdul Gani Rather at Chowgan ground in the city, police officials said.

Police said that few days ago, Rather was arrested with 22 pieces of costly sapphire stone and while questioning, it came to light the ASI had shown less quantity of the seized sapphire. A case was then registered against Iqbal.

Kashmir district's Paddar mountainous belt is famous for world famous blue sapphire.
