Police officer arrested for looting bank's money

The officer-in-charge of a police station here was arrested today on the charges of hatching a conspiracy of looting a private bank's money while being transported to its ATM last week.

The police officer Bhupen Chandra Das hatched the plot to loot Rs 19 lakh while the money was being taken from the bank's Nalbari branch to its ATM in Baihata Chariali on the National Highway 31 near Moranjana on October 20, Kamrup district Superintendent of Police Indrani Barua said.

Das executed the plot along with Paban Barman, the security guard of a money transporting agency employed by the bank, another employee of the agency Taijuddin Ahmed, his brother Prasur Ali and one Iftikar Saikia, the SP said.
 

The police officer's involvement in the robbery came to light after the arrest of Saikia yesterday. The car that carried the stolen money was also recovered, she said.

Paban, Taijuddin and Prasur were arrested earlier.

The SP was hopeful that the robbed money would be recovered soon.
