Police officer arrested for rape

A Tripura police officer was arrested and remanded in five days police custody for allegedly raping a school girl.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Mangal Debbarma, posted at Pitra outpost in Gomati district, was arrested yesterday for raping a Class XI girl, police said today.

The girl was acquainted with the police officer, who took her to a brick kiln on Saturday last and allegedly raped her.

When she raised an alarm, the local people rescued the girl and handed her over to her family.

The girl's guardians lodged an FIR against Debbarma the next day.

The officer was produced before a local court which remanded him in five days police custody.
 

He has also been suspended, the police added.
