SSI Karuppayan, who was on duty at the traffic junction on Avanashi Road, had reportedly misbehaved with the woman, allegedly in an inebriated condition following which people had beaten him up and handed him over to police on July 11 last.

He was placed under suspension after four days, pending departmental inquiry.

The probe was completed on January 10 this year and based on the findings, Karuppayan was asked to go on compulsory VRS and was relieved, an official release said.
