A police officer was allegedly manhandled by a mob when he went to probe the death of a boy who was found hanging at an eatery in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday.
Inspector in-charge (IIC) of Baliapal Police station, Prabhu Kalyan Acharya was attacked when he reached a dhaba at Baliapal after getting information about the death of the 11- year-old boy, police said.
A group of angry villagers attacked him alleging that the boy had been murdered and that an attempt was being made to show that it was a suicide, the police said.
Acharya was rescued by police personnel who rushed to the area, the police said.
The mob blocked the road and ransacked the dhaba where the boy was working demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for his death. They withdrew their protests after some time.
