Police officer held on graft charge

An Additional Sub-Inspector of Police was arrested today on graft charge from Bihar's Madhubani district, a vigilance official said.

Acting on a complaint, a vigilance team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Maharaj Kanishka Kumar laid a trap and caught Ashok Kumar red-handed as soon as he took Rs 18,000 as bribe from one Abdul Rauf at a tea stall outside Babubarhi police station premises, Director General of Police, Vigilance, P K Thakur said.

The ASI, posted at Babubarhi police station, had demanded Rs 24,000 from Rauf for submission of a case diary in a court, he said.

The vigilance department laid 49 traps and arrested 51 persons on corruption charges this year, the official said.
