An Afghan official says one policeman has been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in the country's east.

Salim Saleh, spokesman for the provincial governor in Logar province, said today that eight others were wounded in the attack which took place in Puli Alim, the capital of the province.

Saleh says that Haqiq Rahman, the head provincial judge, and Abdul Rahman, head of the city's appeals court, as well as two other judges are among the wounded.

Four civilians were also injured, he says.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack in Logar.

The Taliban frequently uses roadside bombs and suicide attacks against Afghan and NATO forces and government offices across the country.
