Police today suspended a sub-inspector and initiated departmental probe against two constables for their alleged involvement in torturing a woman in Birbhum district.
SI Kartik Mohan Ghosh, who was yesterday removed from active police duty and shifted to the district police line, was today suspended based on an interim report of investigation of Additional SP Ananda Roy, Superintendent of Police in Birbhum Alok Rajoria said.
"We have suspended Ghosh on the basis of the prima facie evidence against him. We have also started departmental investigation against two constables. We'll conduct further enquiry into the incident," he said.
Sabur Seikh, husband of the tortured woman, lodged an unnamed FIR with Panrui police station alleging that his wife, stated to be the relative of a BJP activist wanted in connection with a bomb attack case, had been tortured and also forcibly taken to police station by cops following a raid at her Ilambazar residence on Sunday.
