Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Virender Singh, an assistant sub-inspector in Delhi Police, who was caught red handed by the probe agency while accepting Rs 9,000 as illegal gratification from complainant Raju Bhati.
"...The entire set of circumstances, the intercepted conversation and the statements of witnesses as well as the FSL report corroborate the case of CBI and point out towards the commission of offence by the accused (Singh)," the court said while holding Singh guilty for the offences punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court, however, granted bail to Singh on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of the like amount on his plea that he wanted to prefer an appeal against the judgement.
According to the CBI, the case was lodged on Bhati's complaint, which alleged that on November 22, 2007, his vehicle had collided with a car and a minor scuffle had taken place.
The incident was dealt with by Singh, who was on duty, the CBI said adding the matter was compromised on the intervention of the accused on November 25, 2007.
The agency alleged Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from Bhati and had threatened him that if he does not pay the money, he would be implicated in a false case of attempt to murder and kidnapping.
After Singh demanded bribe from Bhati, the complainant informed the CBI about it following which a trap was laid and the erring policeman was caught red-handed on November 30, 2007 while accepting Rs 9,000 as bribe.

During the trial, Singh claimed innocence saying he was falsely implicated in the case as Bhati had grudges against him.
The court convicted Singh relying on evidence, intercepted conversations and the forensic reports.
