Police officials arrested for stealing money from car

Two Sub Inspectors of Veeranam police station were arrested on charges of stealing a bag containing Rs 8.50 lakh, which they seized from a car, police said today.

The car was intercepted by Checkpost Flying Squad at Kuppanoor yesterday for checking. When they found several bundles of currency notes, the vehicle was taken to Veeranam police station and later to District Collectorate.

District Collector Kuppuswamy said though police brought one bag containing Rs 27.75 lakh, another one containing Rs 8.50 lakh was missing.

On information DIG A Amalraj along with senior police official reached the Collectorate and an inquiry revealed that Special Sub Inspectors Govindan and Subramaniam took away the bag from the car. Later Rs 4.25 lakh was recovered from them.
 

Both of them were arrested. Police officials were questioning them to recover the balance amount, he said.
