Two police officers were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act after three people arrested for carrying narcotics and liquor bottles revealed that the accused officers took bribes from them, officials said today.
Anil Kumar, Ajay Kumar and Vishal, all belonging to Una district, were arrested after 21.83 grams of charas, 6.99 grams of heroin and 12 bottles of liquor were found in their car, police said, adding that they were booked under sections 20, 21 and 29 of ND and PC Act and Excise Act today.
Police claimed that during investigations, main accused Anil Kumar revealed that he was allegedly paying Rs 25,000 to then Additional Superintendent of Police (Una) Madan Lal Kaushal and Rs 4,000 to Head Constable Brij Bhushan, the then Incharge of Special Investigations Unit (Una), on a monthly basis.
Based on this information, Bhushan was placed under suspension with immediate effect and a departmental enquiry was initiated against him, officials said.
Furthermore, a case under section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Kaushal and Bhushan, and a detailed report on Kaushal was sent to the state government for further action, Director General of Police Sita Ram Mardi said.
The case was transferred to the state CID for investigation, the DGP said.
