Police today opposed the bail application of Rjohn Asir, one of the accused charged with supplying explosives to a Jihadi group responsible for planting a pipe bomb on the yatra route of BJP leader L K Advani near here in 2011 and murder of some Hindu leaders.
Opposing the bail application, Additional Superintendent of Police S Mairrajan, Special Investigation Division of the CB-CID, submitted that Asir was arrested under Explosives Substances Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Arms Act on October 9, 2013.
Asir was one among the 19 accused accused of planning to create disharmony in the country and disturb public order and tranquility and annihilate some Hindu leaders, he submitted.

During the investigation of the pipe bomb case, they seized 143 electric detonators 17.250 kgs of explosive gel packs, country made pistols, ammunition and cash were seized from vaious places. The same explosive substances had been seized from Melapalayam in Tirunelveli district which showed that the supplier was the same person.
After John Asir was arrested, he had confessed to police that he knew Muslim fundedmentalists and he had supplied them explosives.
If Asir was released on bail, he would go absconding and continue with the illegal sale of explosives for his associates for Jihadi activities. He would also tamper with evidence, Mairrajan submitted.
Justice P N Prakash reserved his orders on the bail petition.
