Police personnel to get off on birthday, marriage anniversary:

Home Minister R R Patil said the police officials in Maharashtra will now get leave on their birthdays and marriage anniversaries.

Patil said the state government is working on various schemes to ease the police officials of stress and tension, who have been burdened with extra duties over the last few years.

"We have decided that they will get their rightful leave on their birthdays and marriage anniversaries," he said at a function here organised by Marathi daily 'Navakal' last evening.

He was felicitated at the programme for taking decision to keep 5 per cent reservation in police recruitment to children of serving officials.
 

Patil said the government has completed recruitment of 55,000 officials in the police force in the state and the process to fill another 64,000 posts is on, following which the existing stressful working hours of the policemen are likely to ease down.

He said the recruitments have been done in transparent manner based on merit.

"Maharashtra has the highest number of women recruitment in the police," he added.

Patil said that a housing society for retired police personnel is soon coming up in Navi Mumbai. He also said that the government each year makes a budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore for police housing societies repairs.

"A housing society for retired police officials is being constructed at Navi Mumbai. About 8,000 houses will be ready at affordable prices soon," he added.
