As many as 34 persons including seven policemen were today injured as police used lathi-charge to disperse a protest march of farmers here.

Independent MLA Bachchu Kadu had taken out the protest march to press various demands of the farmers to the divisional commissioner's office.

The demands included adequate price for cotton, soybean, orange and other crops. The prices had fallen after the demonetisation, protesters said.

The district administration had refused permission to the march as model code of conduct is in force for the Legislative Council election for Amravati division graduates constituency.

Police stopped the march and used teargas and lathicharge as the protesters pelted stones, a police officer said.

Twenty-seven protesters and seven policemen including inspector Anil Kuralkar and constables Rajendra Dalvi, Sanjay Jaisingkar, Ramesh Wankhade, Ambadas Gadling, Shiva Bhongade, and Diwakar Dongre were injured.

Kadu later met the collector Kiran Gitte.
