Police recover NRI's stolen bag, arrest two women

Police have arrested two women from the Minto Bridge area here for allegedly stealing an NRI's bag containing his passport, around $5,000 cash and other important documents.

The two accused, who are 30 and 25-year-old, are cousins and carry their babies with them to avoid suspicion, police said.

On September 8, one Balji Bagda, who had come to India from the United States, told police that his bag was stolen at the New Delhi railway station.

He alleged that he was getting down from the foot over- bridge towards the waiting hall on platform number 1 when someone stole his small bag.
 

He told police that the small bag, kept inside his backpack, contained his passport, US green card, a credit card, US social security card, $5,000, around Rs 60,000 and other cards. A case was registered and investigation was initiated.

Police scanned footage from CCTV cameras installed at the railway station and the two women were seen in the footage.

Subsequently, they were nabbed yesterday from near Minto Bridge.

Police have recovered the stolen bag along with the documents, $2,379 and Rs 10,000 in cash, said Kumar Gyanesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways).

The elder of the two cousins was previously arrested in another case of theft.

The accused told police that they were facing problems in meeting their daily expenses and started pickpocketing to earn quick money.
