Police on Tuesday recovered Rs 4 lakh, including one lakh in new Rs 2000 currency, from three persons in Churu district while one of their accomplices managed to flee with another bag carrying approximately the same amount of money, officials said.

We received a tip-off about a car full of cash coming from Sriganganagar to Churu, police officials said, adding that they established multiple checkpoints in Taranagar and Bhaleri highway to trap the accused.

The accused even tried to spill the currency on the highway to avoid the police, but they were intercepted and detained by the police, SHO Shyam Singh told PTI.

However, one of their accomplices managed to flee with another bag carrying another Rs 4 lakh, he said.

The accused had come to exchange new notes with old ones against 35 per cent commission.

All the accused are residents of Sriganganagar district and had fixed a deal with a Churu-based dealer, Singh added.

The police have seized the cash under Section 102 of the CrPc and informed the income tax department about the matter for further investigation.
