Police recovers stolen 58 laptops, iPad from 2 navy personnel

The MVP police station recovered 58 high-end laptops and an Apple iPad from two naval personnel after the police solved 50 cases of laptop thefts in the city, a police official announced here today.

DCP (Crimes) T Ravi Kumar Murthy told reporters today that 35-year-old Mohammad Shakeel Ahmed who allegedly stole nearly 100 high-end laptops, worth over Rs 25 lakh, targeted students staying in hostels at MVP Colony and sold them to navy personnel in the city.

Mohammad Shakeel Ahmed was arrested on June 11 by the MVP police which seized stolen laptops besides an LED TV as well as a car, which he purchased on loan.
 

Based on Ahmed's confession that he had sold nearly 60 laptops to two naval personnel, the police served notices to Sudheer Kumar Beniwal and Deewan Singh, who worked for the Indian Navy's Eastern Naval Command.

Responding to the notices, naval personnel Sudheer Kumar Beniwal and Deewan Singh produced 58 laptops and an iPad.

The DCP said the naval personnel would be arrested as soon as the police receives permission from naval officials.
