The miscreants took away cash from the ATM machine by opening it with a key and a password, bank officials said.

The open ATM machine was noticed by an employee after which bank officials reached the spot and counted the cash, only to find Rs 6.80 lakh missing from the machine.

However, when bank manager Arun Shah and accountant Shyamlal reached the police station to file an FIR, police sub-inspector Ramdhir Singh refused to accept it, claiming that it could be registered only after the ATM engineer's report.

Though two armed security guards were posted at the branch, they didn't keep a watch on the ATM which is right in front side of the branch.

No security guard was posted at the ATM machine, the bank officials said, adding they are waiting for the ATM engineer's arrival.
